Health

There are no compulsory health requirements for entry into Brazil, however vaccinations are advised for Yellow Fever, Typhoid, Polio and Malaria protection when visiting the Amazon Region.

Please note that if you are entering Brazil via Peru, Ecuador or Colombia, you will be required to provide an up to date yellow fever vaccination certificate for immigration purposes.

You are advised to have full medical insurance cover

Money

The Brazilian currency is the REAL. Bank notes are in denominations of 100, 50, 20,10, 5, 2 reais. Coins are 1.00 real, 50 cents, 25 cents, 10 cents and 5 cents. Some banks and exchange stores recognise travellers cheques and foreign currency. It is advisable to carry US Dollar travellers cheques or currency as these are more readily exchanged.

You can use SAFRA BANK as well as the American Express Office located at the International Airports arrival sector. Another option is to utilize the ATM machines located all over the country to get cash money from your Bank.

Banks offering ATM services are HSBC, Banco do Brasil and Citybank.

Credit Cards - Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club and Visa are accepted in the majority of hotels, shops and restaurants.

Visas and Passports

Americans and Canadians citizens need a Visa to enter Brazil.

Tourists and visitors from Mercosul countries do not need to present passports. They merely need to show their ID cards. Visitors from other countries must present a passport that is valid for the next six months.
